If you’ve been wondering whether your child knows “enough” before kindergarten, you’re not alone—and you might be focusing on the wrong things (in the best way).
Kindergarten Quick Tip
This week, shift your focus from academics to real-life readiness skills.
Instead of asking, “Do they know their ABCs and 123s?” try asking:
- Can my child follow simple directions?
- Can they do small tasks on their own?
- Are they learning how to handle big feelings?
- Can they play and take turns with others?
- Are they willing to try something new?
These are the skills that help children thrive in a kindergarten classroom.
You don’t need to add more worksheets or structured lessons. You just need to notice and build these skills in everyday life.
Try This at Home
Pick one simple direction to practice today.
Say something like: “Please put your shoes by the door and come back to me.”
Keep it light and encouraging. If they forget a step, gently guide them and let them try again. This one small habit builds listening, confidence, and independence—all at once.
Encouraging Reminder
You don’t have to teach everything—what really matters is helping your child learn how to try.
