This week we’re bringing math into the kitchen with holiday baking—because counting, measuring, and sorting can be just as fun as tasting those cookies!
Kindergarten Quick Tip: Let Your Child Help in the Kitchen
Even simple baking tasks teach math concepts: counting ingredients, measuring amounts, sorting sprinkles, and recognizing shapes. Invite your child to scoop, pour, or line up cookie dough balls—they’re practicing number sense, patterns, and sequencing while having a blast.
Optional activity idea: Ask your child to make a red–green–red pattern with candies or sprinkles on each cookie.
Try This at Home
During your next baking session, have your child count how many cookie dough balls you place on the tray. After baking, count them again together—this reinforces one-to-one correspondence and counting accuracy.
Encouraging Reminder
Perfect cookies aren’t the goal—fun, learning, and together time are the sweetest parts of baking.
